Background & Object of Research

Internet has become one of very import infrastructure for our lives. For example, if Internet is stopped by some accidents, many worst effects against our lives would occur in the similar  way when water and power service supplies are stopped. Many advanced technologies and equipment are used for maintenance of the current Internet. Unlike water and power service supplies, these technologies and equipments are always being researched and evolving to more advanced. These advanced Internet is called as "The Next Generation Internet, NGI" and researched in all over the world, US, Europe and Asia. We research these technologies and applications for NGI in cooperation between Japan and Korea. We aim that our research activities become one of bases of researches and developments of Internet technologies in Asia.

Research Subject

Our research themes are divided into researches  of base technologies for NGI and researches of applications using NGI. i.e. “Technologies for Networking”, ”Security”, ”GRID”, ”e-Learning”, ”Virtual Reality/Museum” and “Digital Library”.  Some of the themes are already progressed well and shown as following in detail.

1.            Researches of base technologies for NGI

We are researching core technologies which make the current Internet advanced, IPv6 protocol, QoS, Multicasting, Measurement of Internet and Mobile. We focus on mechanisms and protocols for the advanced Internet. Furthermore we will contribute to standardization for IETF and ITU and cooperate with companies to let our technologies to be parts of their products and so our researches can be returned to the society.

Applications of  telesurgery learning using NGI

It is difficult to learn advanced new surgery ways with dealing daily medical examinations. Information from papers and edited video are limited and it is impossible to visit to see the other surgery. The aim of this theme is that Japanese and Korean doctors can learn new surgery ways of each other by transmission of each real-time surgery video. We use extremely precise video transmission system that can be adapted to general medical area which requires precise video. We hope that developments of medical technologies could be accelerated if we can exchange our advanced surgery ways at any time and daily over Internet.
